Ministays: Short-Term English Programs for Young Learners

Learning English through daily life is usually far more satisfying than learning in a classroom. Weekend English practice and cultural immersion for young learners keen to practice English and experience British culture is the ideal mix of learning and excitement. Such programmes allow learners to live as locals, interact with native local speakers, and experience culture, making second nature learning and enjoyment.

Ministays provide an excellent solution for student groups to prolong their English language learning in real-life settings. Suitable for students 11–18 years old and accommodating all levels of ability (A1–C2), short-course Ministays provide an ideal combination of language practice and activity-based learning with excursions. 15+ students are occasionally accommodated in value-for-money packages such as host family accommodation, meals, and cultural events. With well-trained and experienced staff to attend to them, every visit is designed to build confidence and communication through active, participatory learning.

The homestay arrangement introduces the students to British customs, regional variation in usage of language, and home-style dinner and breakfast, exposing the students to a balanced experience of British life. The students typically travel to and from school by public transport from home, further inducing a sense of independence. Classes are provided in closed-group setups or mixed-nationality classes where possible, based on the time of year, and always with English as the predominant language of communication across lessons.

Outside of class, students travel to iconic sites, participate in team-building activities, and forge lasting bonds of friendship. The interactions enable the students to break down language barriers in a relaxed, open environment. Organisers and educators who are part of groups are remunerated with free places (one per group of 15 students), making it a budget-friendly solution for schools and organisations.

Ministays aren't all about English learning—ministays learn world citizenship, cross-cultural competence, and personal growth. For the majority of students, that experience and knowledge gained in these immersion trips carries much more than into the classroom, giving them English confidence and a world curiosity for the rest of their lives.
